NATALIA NIKULENKOVA

Before arriving at Mellösaverken, Natalia lived and worked in Moscow. Her artistic practice explores political power structures and how they intersect with everyday life and individual experience. She is dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalized individuals and communities through participatory projects and events. Natalia's work, which spans multimedia and often incorporates performance, blends activism with artistic expression to engage with a range of socio-political issues. These include the social stigma surrounding mental illness, the emotional and structural transformation of labor, collective and personal memory of the former Soviet Union, and the psychological and social effects of military conflict. Her art is deeply connected to daily life and grounded in the stories and lived experiences of her collaborators-patients in psychiatric institutions, incarcerated underage girls, nurses, mothers, war veterans, and refugees from post-Soviet regions.
